REFLECTION
When I had first enrolled in this degree, I never expected to learn how to carry out research and write my own dissertation. In high school, I had always avoided writing factual essays as I thought I lacked the skills to do so effectively. However, as Dr Jinchi had guided me to write with clarity throughout the process, I was able to gain so much insight regarding my research and writing style. The Findings and Discussion section truly had me stumped in the beginning. With Dr Jinchi's advice to prepare a matrix, I was able to properly look at all 142 of my respondents' answers. Without it, I think I would have lost my path and my mind. Furthermore, I think having had planned everything let me find better information to include and make my work more coherent.
Once I was happy with my dissertation edit, we had to design an E-Book for the dissertation. I would admit, that I felt under pressure as I had zero idea how to make the E-Book look as interesting as possible, without it being too distracting towards the contents in my book. It also forced me to try and find better imagery for my content, which I had found hard to do as I wanted specific shades of brown. However, this taught me how to be flexible with my work and create a design I liked. That task allowed for me to instil my Typography knowledge, which I can't complain as I think I did quite a good job on the kerning.
This module also challenged my nervousness. Despite having typed all words with my own fingers, I was super nervous when I did the TurnItIn. The idea of getting a 15% haunted me for a few days as I was worried what could happen. In the end, I forced myself to trust myself. I kept repeating the sentence, "I wrote all of it.. There shouldn't be a problem," which is somewhat true. TurnItIn marked the Google Sheet document where I had placed all my survey respondent's answers as something which I had plagiarised. Perhaps if I privated the document, it would have been better for the percentage, but I can't complain still. I got a 7%!
Overall, I really enjoyed this module. Whenever I was having a blank head for my other modules, I turned to this as it was mainly factual. It allowed me to challenge my brain in its thinking abilities, which is never a bad thing. It also allowed me to brush up on my language skills which I can never be angry for (thank you Thesaurus). However, mostly, I would like to thank Dr Jinchi for having guided me for two semesters. She has been absolutely patient with me, especially at 8 in the morning, when I'm the most blur. Without her, my paper definitely wouldn't have been as good as it is.
