Next, I wanted to try implementing a newspaper into the background. I found that it brought more of an interesting look to it, and that it made the “darker my love” slogan look like the title of a fashion article. This is my favourite so far.

Lecture
During lecture, Mr Fauzi has shared very vital information about composition.
Introduction to Composition
Focal Point: Allows viewers eyes to naturally settle on important elements of design
Scale & Hierarchy: Scale is used to communicate hierarchy (draws attention to and away from elements)
Balancing Elements: Thinking that each element has weight (mastering asymmetrical balance)
White Space: Empty space. Balances main focus of composition. Helps design to breathe.
Rule of Thirds
- Dividing image into thirds
- Position important elements at the intersection = provides a more natural image
- Rule of Thirds is used to compose to be naturally pleasing as they are in line, creatively use negative space as well as creating a conversation between the subject and the background.
Golden Ratio
- A mathematical ratio
- Organic & natural compositions
- Creates harmony & proportion
- Provides a sense of artistry
- Determines dimensions of a layout
- Dimensions: 1:1.618
Practical
Design Idea: As someone who has mainly fashion magazines in my house, I knew it would be best to have a fashion theme to it. Firstly, I went through all my magazines to get some inspiration, and I discovered my old Nylon magazine had a lot of interesting headlines. Looking through each of them, I concluded my favourite was “darker my love,”. I knew that this slogan could further the content within the collage. Then, I went through W Korea November 2020 issue, WAVES Wonwoo 2021 issue and Harper’s Bazaar January 2021 issue and found interesting things to cut out. Then, I went straight to trying out some compositions.Figure 1.1 Nylon magazine, January 2013.

"This was my first pre-composition. I wanted to make the theme according to the words, “darker my love.” I decided to make her centered to ensure she was the focus of the composition."

"Finally, I decided to try to implement another figure into the composition. However, I found it felt too hectic and I had trouble deciding where things should go."
Feedback
03/09/2021 (Friday): Today, Mr Fauzi gave me feedback through Google Classroom's private comment function. His comment read, "Nice one Adena! I would like to suggest you to choose the COMPOSITION #1 for the submission later. Keep up a good work!"
